Illusion of Motion

The blurred lines in the photo on the billboard give a driver the illusion of motion
at a high rate of speed. I really think this is a very creative way to accomplish this.

The multiple images in this piece suggests the stick figure in an anticipated state of motion in the first frame, which then goes on to a full jump. The frames of the stick figure were added in by the animator to give more of an illusion of fluid motion.

The blurred lines of the people in the foreground clearly show that they are dancing and moving.

Illusion of Space

This image shows an amplified perspective of the woman with a gun. The gun being practically right in your face while the girl is set back a bit shows that she is in the background.

This photo shows a one-point perspective. The men in the back appear to be down a tunnel, which you can see by dots which decrease in size and the lines converging to the single vanishing point.

This garden path photo shows the use of aerial perspective. The use of the dark coloring in the foreground contrasting with the lighter colors in the back show the depth of the path very nicely.

Headshot

This is a picture of me just after getting home from work. It seems to represent me on a normal day fairly well. The glasses are a new addition for me, as I usually wear contact lenses, but due to an infection on both of my corneas, contacts are out for a little while. (My eyes are healing nicely though thanks to some antibiotic drops)
I'm pictured here sitting at my computer with my back to the big picture window in our apartment. This make for a very light background, which balances out the darkness of my shirt.
There is good flow with the diagonal line of my arms and shoulders along with the vertical lines if the curtains on the left side of the window.
My face is centered in the picture and is the focal point, which is good, since that is what the assignment is! (:

Noise

Looking at other people's blogs, I saw a few different ways to approach this project. I just to use a single image and distort it a bit.
My 2nd attempt at this project...

Balance

I had a really hard time doing this. I'm not all that good in Photoshop. I'd really appreciate some feedback from the class. Good or bad...let me have it!

Scale

I really like racing so I chose these pictures of cars to represent scale. Going from a matchbox version to a diecast version to the actual car.

Emphasis

Contrast:
The red flowers are a major contrast to the gray skies and green stems.
http://fineartamerica.com/images-medium/hot-cold-contrast-1-floriana-barbu.jpg

Isolation:
The lonely umbrella is the sole focal point on this beach. The sand, water and sky
all pretty much blend together leaving the umbrella to stand out.
http://fineartamerica.com/images-medium/blue-isolation-trisha-lambi.jpg

Placement:
The stem and petals of the flower draw the eye to the center of the
flower which is the focal point. The blue sky and the flower are contrasting
which also help the lines draw the viewers eye.

One Element:
The lighting and the color of the child's clothing help to make the child the obvious
focal point in the painting.

Absence of focal point:
The blurred image of the face make for an absence of a focal point.

Unity

Proximity:

The 3 ladies close together are a great example of proximity.
http://www.thefrasergallery.com/artwork/DouglasMalone/Proximity5.jpg

Repetition (emphasis on similarity):

This Warhol piece featuring Marilyn Monroe shows repetition with an emphasis on similarity. Her image repeated over and over makes this happen.
http://persuasiveweb.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/repetition_warhol2.jpg

Repetition (emphasis on variety):

The similar square pattern with no color pattern shows repetition with an emphasis on variety.

Continuation:

The leaf crossing the 'H' show good use of continuation.
http://graphicdesign.spokanefalls.edu/tutorials/process/gestaltprinciples/continuation/continuation_a.gif

The grid as organizing factor:

The grid of signage and buildings make good use of the grid in the city.
http://invisibleman.com/nyt_directions_500.jpg

An example of a chaotic, unreadable image:

There is no real organization in the picture shown here. It seems to me to be almost evil looking. I like it!

An example of a non-objective expression of unity:

The signs gathering in the middle of the circle show unity.

An example of a figurative expression of unity:

The 4 ladies arm in arm are showing the figurative unity.

My image

Hi folks. This is my blog. I'm fairly new at blogging, but I'm trying!

Here is an image by Ansel Adams that I really like.
